Vole-hunting pensioner shoots himself in the hand

A Burgenland pensioner had to be hospitalised after he shot himself in the hand hunting voles.
The man bought a special gas pistol in a bid to kill the animals which had wrecked his property in Sankt Martin an der Raab in southern Burgenland by digging up the whole place. But the plan backfired as Anton B. shot himself in the hand in a first attempt at trying out the weapon.
The 64-year-old’s daughters called an ambulance after finding their dad lying in the garden screaming. Emergency doctor Wolfgang Gangl said after examining the hospitalised pensioner: "The man suffered a penetrating gunshot wound. Hopefully, no important bones, tendons or nerves were destroyed."
