Otto Habsburg gets Papal audience

By Thomas Hochwarter

The son of Austria’s last Emperor was granted an audience by the Pope yesterday (Mon).

Otto Habsburg-Lothringen – son of Emperor Karl I – met with Pope Benedict XVI in the Vatican. Details of the audience have not been revealed.

It was the first time since 2006 that the 97-year-old had been received by the Pope.

Otto Habsburg-Lothringen – who for the past few months has not made any public appearances – also attended Pope John Paul II’s beatification of his father in 2004.

Habsburg-Lothringen, a Member of the European Parliament for the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU) for 20 years, has German, Austrian and Hungarian citizenship.
