Nobel Prize-winning author Herta Müller will read from her new novel "Atemschaukel" (Everything I Possess I Carry With Me) at Vienna’s Burgtheater, it has been announced.
Bosses at the theatre – regarded as one of the most important theatres in German-speaking Europe – said today (Fri) the Romanian-born German author will read from the book, which was published last year, on 3 March (8pm).
Plinio Bachmann and Kurt Neumann will make the opening speech on the evening.
Bestseller "Atemschaukel" – which made the 2009 German Book Prize shortlist – describes the brutality of Romania’s Stalinist regime in and around the end of WWII when Romanian Germans were deported to Gulag camps.
Other highlights of the current Burgtheater season are William Shakespeare’s "Faust", "Warten auf Godot" (Waiting For Godot) by Samuel Beckett and Karl Schönherr’s "Der Weibsteufel" performed at the Akademietheater, the institution’s sister theatre.
