Driftwood sculptures on display in Vienna

Driftwood sculptures by Bahamian artist Perrec Petry will be on exhibit at Vienna’s "Haus des Meeres" aqua terra zoo from 3 to 21 March.

It will be the first time they will have been on exhibit in Austria.

Petry, who lives on the island Elbow Cay in the Bahamian archipelago, travels to and from his workshop by boat, which gives him a chance to observe the sea life that inspires his work.
        
He has been making wood sculptures for more than 30 years. His idea is to recycle driftwood and give it new life as works of art.

He is also very interested in making his work accessible to the blind, who can make appointments for special guided tours of the sculptures at Haus des Meeres.

Petry will be in Vienna during the exhibit and be regularly available to answer questions about his sculptures.

The exhibit has been organised by "hopetown GesbR," an organisation that undertakes projects of social interest.

The exhibit will be open daily from 9am to 6pm and until 9pm on Thursdays. Admission to Haus des Meeres, located in Vienna-Mariahilf, costs 12.50 Euros.
