Kim Wilde to rock the Donauinsel

Kim Wilde will perform at this year’s Donauinselfest, the biggest free of charge music festival in Europe.

The British singer – who recently successfully started a career as a gardener and book author – will be among the hundreds of acts hitting the dozens of stages at the three-day event in Vienna this June.

The vast majority of performers have not been revealed yet, but music news website Britishrock.cc reported today (Tues) that Wilde will come to Vienna for the event taking place at the Donauinsel (Danube Island), the capital’s huge recreational area.

Wilde’s career was kick-started when her song "Kids in America" reached number two in the UK charts in 1981. "You Keep Me Hangin' On" also reached number two in the UK but topped the American Billboard Charts five years later. "Never Say Never" from 2006 is her most recent album.

Supertramp founding member Roger Hodgson, German singer Jochen Distelmeyer and English pop duo Right Said Fred have also already been confirmed to perform at the 27th Donauinselfest.

Around three million people are expected to attend the festival which first took place in 1983 to promote the newly created Donauinsel as the perfect place to do sports.

Organisers were harshly criticised last year as they called up hundreds of fire fighters and volunteers to avoid a cancellation of events due to massive rainfalls – while hundreds of family homes in several provincial areas of Austria became uninhabitable at the same time.
