New season begins at Vienna's Prater

The new season kicks off at Vienna’s Prater amusement park with the popular Schweizerhaus restaurant expanding its beer garden and installing a 117 metre high tower near the entrance setting the theme for "Vienna in 1900".
                
Other new attractions include an interactive trip through an ice world that promises to "engage all five senses" with visitors experiencing what it’s like to be on the tip of an iceberg and at the bottom of a polar sea.

The iceberg will open on 14 April and allow visitors in for free for two hours. It will be permanently free for kids no taller than 1.10 metres.

A second adventure attraction, the octopus, will feature an attack on a ship by an 18 metre long octopus.

Yet another new attraction will open next year, a Madame Tussauds wax museum near the Prater’s giant Ferris wheel.

That will have 70 wax figures of international stars and prominent Austrians throughout history.

Visitors can purchase Prater cards to visit attractions without paying for admission in cash and which give 20 per cent discount.

The cards can be bought at the Prater, Wien-Ticket offices and many tobacco shops.

There will also be an Easter festival at the Prater on Easter Sunday, 4 April, and the first family day will take place two days later on 6 April.
