Lucie shows off a designer tip

Shopping Therapy Big Apple Style

By Tova Marr

I had the lovely opportunity to sit down with native New Yorker Lucie Lamster this week.

Having moved to Vienna with her Austrian husband in 2004, Lucie described the culture shock of moving from the Big Apple and leaving her job as fashion stylist behind. “I had once said, I’ll never leave New York! I had a great job, great friends and lived in a city I loved”. But as if tempting fate, Lucie met an Austrian and got married.

Having worked as a fashion stylist for 9 years, she had a passion for fashion that she couldn’t shake. She spent months scouring shops and looking for unusual and creative designers scattered throughout the Vienna districts. After some time, Lucie realized that Vienna did boast an impressive collection of boutiques and wondered “Who knows about these places?”.  That is when Lucie’s idea for shopping tours was born. After months of researching and negotiating with shops, Lucie was registered and ready to start her tours. Her tagline is “Discover the best Austrian designers off the beaten path ... and other hidden treasures.”   And this is definitely true with the two types of tours that she offers.

Tour 1- for 20 Euros and maximum of 9 people (minimum 5) Lucie takes you to an average of 15 shops throughout Vienna for around 3 hours.

Tour 2- for 25 Euros and maximum 7 people Lucie takes you to 10 shops with a stronger focus on jewelry.

Along with these tours, the store provides a discount to the groups. Another thing that Lucie is adamant about is the “no-pressure sale”. She wants her clients to enjoy the experience and to buy only what they truly love.  Her motto? “There are 3 international languages: Love, Music and Shopping!”

If you’re in Vienna just for a couple of days, or have resided in Vienna for years, Shopping with Lucie is a wonderful way to discover new shops.  When asked about her current favourite boutiques she said it was almost impossible to narrow it down but at the moment she would say “Werkprunk” and Showroom “Lila’s Pix.” Werkprunk is a shop specializing in leather and silver accessories. Two sisters from Vorarlberg own and run the shop and one specializes in leather while the other in silver. Lila’s Pix, according to Lucie, is an amazing show room that offers both Haute Couture and Ready to Wear by designer Gina Drewes.

With her years of fashion experience, one can trust that at least one store on the tour will appeal to even the most discerning of fashion conscientious person. Whether you book a tour as a group, or join as an individual, you should feel confident that Lucie will open up a whole new aspect to Vienna shopping.

Tours: Thursday, Friday and Saturday
