Europe's highest brewery in Austria

Europe's highest brewery in Austria

Europe’s highest brewery has opened in Austria. The "Asitz Bräu" which opened for business on 17 December last year, is located at 1,760 metres and is run by the Altenberger family, owners of four star hotel "Der Krallerhof" in Leogang.

For several years now the family-run Alpine resort has made a name for itself with the ever-popular restaurant "Alte Schmiede". The owners have now added another string to their bow with the new brewery. Their traditional Bavarian atmosphere has continually brought customers to their eatery at 1,760 metres.

The new brewery, located directly next to the "Alte Schmiede", is a mixture of brewery museum, restaurant and events location, with the venue serving up typical brewery fare such as knuckle of pork and bratwurst. All of this hearty food can of course be washed down with several glasses of Austrian beer.

At the original museum restaurant "Alte Schmiede", which translates as the "Old Forge", located just a few metres from the Asitzbahn ski lift, visitors can take in the unique local charm surrounded by historic exhibits and countless tools from the original forge.

The food and drink venues located at the top of the mountain, do not stop there. Just a stone’s throw from the Krallerhof Hotel itself is the Kralleralm. The cosy restaurant and bar, with its large terrace, provides the perfect après ski location. Throughout winter the venue is frequented by local DJs, hosting the legendary party on Wednesday, "The Bear".

For more information on the brewery, the old forge and the Kalleralm, visit the hotel's website: http://www.krallerhof.com/en/hotelundresort/ueberblick/
