Four year old Mozart found in painting

Young Mozart discovered in Schoenbrunn painting

Walk past too quickly and you'll miss it - but in the painting 'Wedding Supper of Joseph and Isabella of Parma' on show at the Schoenbrunn Palace there is a tiny figure among the many guests and musicians that's worth getting a closer look at.

On the edge of the orchestra and one of the only faces that appear to stare directly at the artist, is a very young Mozart, thought to be around four-year-old boy.

Now the piece by artist Martin van Meytens can be looked at by anyone in the world after it has been included in Google's virtual museum as a high resolution 'gigapixel' image.

The virtual copy allows the viewer to zoom in right up into the faces of the sitters in the painting, including that of young Mozart.

"We want the virtual museum visitors to have the opportunity to play with our painting," said Head of Schoenbrunn Society SKB Franz Sattlecker.

The painting can be seen online at www.google.com/culturalinstitute
