New exhibit at Architekturzentrum Wien

Austrian architecture in the 20th Century

The Architecture centre in Vienna is opening the third stage of it's long term exhibition looking at Austrian 20th and 21st Century architecture.

The final installation of the A_Show is covering major urban and architectural issues of the second half of the century under the headings 'International', 'System', 'Utopia', 'Collage', and 'The Present'.

The institution Architekturzentrum Wien in MuseumsQuartier hopes to show how architectural ideas from the previous century laid the foundation for what they say is the rich diversity of today's urban landscape.

The exhibition first began in March 2004 and focused on the early Modernists, with the second stage which has run since September 2004 looking at themes 'Red Vienna', 'Power', 'Landscape', and 'Post-War Reconstruction'.

The latest installation brings the exhibition up to date, featuring protagonists of post-war modernism along with the game-changing buildings of the 1960s that gave Austria an alternative social and artistic approach to architecture. The development into the 1970s and 1980s and the increasing attention on architects in the provinces also forms a section of the exhibit which looks at the industry in Austria up until the modern day.
