In celebration of Shakespeare’s 459th Anniversary the renowned ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ will be playing at Vienna’s English Theatre.
From May 26th until July 5th there will be daily performances with the exception of May 27th and June 7th-9th.
Much Ado About Nothing, one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies, has been captivating audiences for centuries with its classic tale of romance and intrigue as well as verbal wit and insight.
Celebrating their triumphant return from a military campaign, Don Pedro, Prince of Arragon and his officers stay to revel with Leonato, the governor of Messina.
Thoughts of war soon turn into those of love in a "merry war" between the sexes.
Whilst young Claudio falls head over heels for Leonato’s daughter Hero and soon wins her hand, Benedick and Beatrice engage in a sharp-tongued, hilarious battle of equally strong wits. The newly betrothed couple conspire with Don Pedro to set a "lover’s trap" for Benedick and Beatrice to make them confess their true feelings to each other. Meanwhile, the villainous Don Jon plots to break up the wedding by accusing Hero of infidelity.
In the end, though, it all turns out to be "much ado about nothing" and everyone joins in celebrating the marriages of the two couples.
