The following films are on at the English language cinema Haydn Kino on Mariahilfestrasse between 1 May and 7 May:


The Grand Budapest Hotel: A comedy-drama film written and directed by Wes Anderson and inspired by the writings of Stefan Zweig. The film follows the adventures of Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes), a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and his lobby boy Zero Moustafa (Tony Revolori), who becomes his most trusted friend. The two team to prove his innocence after he is framed for murder. The cast also includes Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, Saoirse Ronan, Edward Norton, and William Dafoe.

Her: A science fiction romantic comedy-drama film written, directed, and produced by Spike Jonze (Where the Wild Things Are - 2009). The film stars Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, and Scarlett Johansson as the voice of Samantha. The film centers on a man who develops a relationship with an intelligent computer operating system (OS) with a female voice and personality. It marks Jonze's solo screenwriting debut. The film was under fire, when Scarlett Johansson won numerous awards in Best Supporting Actress categories, because we don't see the actress actually playing in the film.

King Lear live from the National Theatre London: Academy Award winner Sam Mendes returns to the National Theatre to direct Simon Russell Beale in the title role of Shakespeare’s tragedy: An aged king decides to divide his kingdom between his three daughters, according to which of them is most eloquent in praising him. His favourite, Cordelia, says nothing. Lear’s world descends into chaos.

Transcendence: A 2014 science fiction mystery thriller film that marks the directorial debut of long-time cinematographer Wally Pfister. The film stars Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall, and Morgan Freeman. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas serve as executive producers of the film. Johnny Depp portrays Dr. Will Caster, an artificial intelligence researcher who strives to create a machine that possesses sentience and collective intelligence. When Carter is close to death, because of an attempted assassination, his wife Evelyn, played by Rebecca Hall, downloads his mind into a computer trying to save his life. Although Caster's goal to acquire knowledge becomes one to acquire power, and he seems to be unstoppable.

The Lego Movie (3D): A computer animated adventure comedy film directed and co-written by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, and starring the voices of Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Alison Brie, Charlie Day, Liam Neeson, and Morgan Freeman. Based mainly on the Lego line of construction toys, the film tells the story of an ordinary Lego minifigure named Emmet prophesied to save the Lego universe from the tyrannical Lord Business. The movie has earned more than $250 million domestically and $160 million internationally for a worldwide total of over $410 million to date. A sequel is already scheduled to be released on May 26, 2017.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (3D): A superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb and released by Columbia Pictures. It serves as a sequel to the 2012 film The Amazing Spider-Man and was announced in 2011. The studio hired James Vanderbilt to write the screenplay and Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci to re-write it. Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Campbell Scott, Embeth Davidtz, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti and Sally Field are set to star. After the events of the first film we find Peter Parker still struggling with balancing his life as a high school student and his responsibilities as Spider-Man. When Peter begins to investigate more about his father's past, thanks to the help of his friend Harry Osborn, he begins to realize that the new threats of Electro and the Rhino all have one thing in common: OsCorp. More villains like Green Goblin are said to be introduced in the movie, which may lead to the Sinister Six movie.

Muppets Most Wanted: A musical comedy caper film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and the eighth theatrical film featuring the Muppets. Directed by James Bobin and written by Bobin and Nicholas Stoller, the film is a sequel to 2011's The Muppets and stars Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey. In Muppets Most Wanted, the Muppets find themselves unwittingly involved in an international crime caper while on tour in Europe.

The Other Woman: A romantic comedy film directed by Nick Cassavetes and written by Melissa Stack. The film stars Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, Kate Upton, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Kinney. After discovering her boyfriend Mark (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) is married, Carly (Cameron Diaz) tries to get her ruined life back on track. But when she accidentally meets the wife he’s been cheating on, Kate (Leslie Mann), she realizes they have much in common, and her sworn enemy becomes her greatest friend. When yet another affair, Amber (Kate Upton), is discovered, all three women team up to plot mutual revenge on the cheating, lying, three-timing Mark.

Noah (3D): A epic biblically-inspired fantasy film directed by Darren Aronofsky, written by Aronofsky and Ari Handel, and based on the story of Noah's Ark. In a world ravaged by human sin, Noah is given a divine mission: to build an Ark to save creation from the coming flood. The film stars Russell Crowe as Noah along with Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Anthony Hopkins, and Douglas Booth. In North America, the film grossed a little over $43.7 million during its opening box office weekend, becoming Aronofsky's highest opening weekend and his first film to open at #1.

Captain America - The Winter Soldier (3D): A superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Captain America, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. It is the sequel to 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and the ninth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Emily VanCamp, Hayley Atwell, Robert Redford, and Samuel L. Jackson. In the film, Captain America and the Black Widow join forces to stop a covert enemy that is hiding in Washington, D.C. It is said that the film influences the main story line of "The Avengers 2 - Age Of Ultron", which will come out next year. Also, don't forget to stay until the end of the credits to watch two teasers (one for the new Avengers movie and the other for the Captain America story line).
