Life Ball raises 2.3 million Euro

Proceeds of over 2.4 million EUR were made over the Life Ball Weekend 2014, according to organisers.

The amount is preliminary net proceeds and includes income from the lively Life Ball night, including every drink sold at the event as well as proceeds from the Red Ribbon Celebration Concert and the AIDS Solidarity Gala.

The Gala included a high-class auction where the Life Ball Visual 2014 by David LaChapelle was auctioned for 180,000 EUR, as well as a unique necklace by Chopard, which brought in 150,000 EUR for the good cause.

The proceeds of the ticket sale for after party events including the Life Ball After Hour Volksgarten club on Sunday at the also form part of the preliminary net proceeds of the Life Ball Weekend 2014.

"I will particularly remember this Life Ball because the guests were so pleasant and kindness and solidarity could be felt everywhere. As the organisation of this year's ball was one of the most difficult for us, this fact wonderfully rewards the whole team", says Life Ball organizer Gery Keszler.

"We realized that is has become almost impossible to capture the Life Ball's lively energy on TV – on the other hand, the influence of the measures which can be taken next year with the funds raised will be experienced by many people living with HIV and AIDS."

Since the first Life Ball in 1993, AIDS LIFE has supported Austrian HIV/AIDS initiatives. In 2014, around 500,000 EUR will go to Austrian projects – above all to the Austrian AIDS Helps, which offer direct help and counselling for people with HIV in seven Austrian states.

Other projects are HIVmobil, an association which provides home care for people with HIV/AIDS, or the association Positiver Dialog.

Further donations will go to projects in Kenya and Asia to help people and children affected by HIV and AIDS.
