The 10th Africa Days festival on Danube Island

In the first two weeks of August Vienna's Danube Island will be hit with colour, costume and culinary delights as the city celebrates the tenth Africa Days festival.

Africa Days is about celebrating all the culture the great continent has to offer, including music, modern design and traditional handicrafts.

One of the main acts for the festival will be pioneer of African-Jazz Manu Dibango who will be performing on 16 August.

Another musical highlight includes German-Congolese musician Mayembé Malayika who will open the festival performing soul, reggae and afrobeats-inspired music with her band on 1 August. On the following day, Iyasa, a group of dancers and actors from Zimbabwe, will be showcasing traditional dance and songs - with a modern touch.

The djembe and balafon player Louis Sanou, who hails from Burkina Faso and but has lived for many years in Austria, will also be playing on 5 August.

And for the blues fans, Bassekou Kouyate, a specialist of West African Blues, will be putting on the final concert on 17 August.

Amid all the music, the African Bazaar will offer a place to sample the wide range of regional delights from the continent and there will also be drum and dance workshops available.

The 10th Africa Days Vienna 2014 is held between 1 and 17 August and is free to attend. For a detailed program and ticket information visit www.afrika-tage.at
