Stevens extends Red Bull contract
Huub Stevens has extended his contract with champions Red Bull Salzburg, it was announced today (Tues).
The Dutchman said he would stay at the club until summer 2012.
Under Stevens, who succeeded fellow Dutchman Co Adriaanse last summer, the "Bulls" reached the Europa League knock-out stage this season. The team is currently second in the Bundesliga just two points down to vice champions Rapid Vienna.
"I’ve always said that I enjoy living in Salzburg a lot," Stevens – who won the UEFA Cup with Schalke 04 in 1997 – said.
He added: "Red Bull Salzburg are currently in a very interesting, exciting and promising period, and I want to contribute my part."
Red Bull executive manager Dietmar Beiersdorfer announced the contracts of Stevens’ assistants Ton Lokhoff and Eddy Achterberg had also been extended until 2012.
That comes just days after Stevens was rumoured to be in the running for the hot seat at German champions VfL Wolfsburg.
Already yesterday, SV Ried announced coach Paul Gludovatz would stay at the club for another year. The former Austrian Under-19s national team manager became coach at Ried in 2008. The Upper Austrian side is currently fifth in the ten-team Bundesliga.
Ried President Hans Willminger said: "We want to continue to walk the path of continuity we chose to take when we decided to sign Gludovatz. We especially hope that more and more of our young players will find their way into the senior squad."
Gludovatz said: "I’m looking forward to a third year in the Bundesliga with Ried. The town has become my home by now."
Another football coach from Burgenland decided to quit his job recently.
Gerhard Hitzel, who has been coaching at Lokomotiv Moscow’s youth academy, returned home to Forchtenstein in Burgenland's Mattersburg district last week.
The 62-year-old said club officials and he had mutually agreed to end his contract which had been valid until the end of 2010. Hitzel said cited security and professional reasons for his decision to quit.
Hitzel was mysteriously kidnapped in the Russian capital for one day in December. He said Moscow police had told him he was in danger of being kidnapped again and that his December abduction had not been the result of a case of mistaken identity or attempted robbery.
