Sturm mourn after missed chances

Sturm Graz deplore not having scored more goals against Georgian club FC Dinamo Tbilisi in yesterday’s (Thurs) 2-0 win.

Former Rapid Vienna stars Ferdinand Feldhofer and Roman Kienast found the net for the home side in the first leg of the third UEFA Europa League qualification round played in front of 4,700 supporters.

The victory means the ÖFB Cup winners have good chances of progressing in the international competition, but Feldhofer criticised his teammates for missing too many opportunities to create a more convincing result ahead of next week’s second leg.

"We had lots of chances," the defender said.

Midfielder Andreas Hölzl however stressed: "We are an experienced team and know exactly what to do (in the second leg)."

Bundesliga vice champions Austria Vienna have the best chances of Austria’s three competitors in the event after beating Polish club Ruch Chorzów 3-1 after being 0-1 down only four minutes into the match.

The match between Rapid Vienna, currently just eighth in the ten-team Bundesliga, and PFC Beroe Stara Zagora from Bulgaria ended 1-1. Captain Steffen Hofmann found the net from the penalty spot for the 32-time league champions based in Vienna-Penzing.

Match action in the Austrian Bundesliga continues with two matches tomorrow and another three on Sunday, including Rapid vs. champions Red Bull Salzburg (kickoff: 4pm).
