Austria is catering to the needs of US figure skaters ahead of the Sochi Winter Games by providing them with a place to do extra practice.
The time on Austrian ice will be in addition to their regular training slots at Sochi.
Spokesperson Barbara Reichert said this was a normal thing to do and had nothing to do with any security issues. They had secured the slots on Austrian ice two years ago "to allow additional practice time for the American athletes and to prepare for the Olympic Winter Games", according to Reichert.
It is not the first time the US team has sought extra training slots around the winter olympics by looking outside the location of the games. In 2002 during the Salt Lake City Games, they trained outside of Utah. They did the same thing at the 2006 Turin Olympics and four years ago in Vancouver.
