Wiesberger misses out on victory at Austrian Open

Top Austrian golfer Bernd Wiesberger was pipped to the post at the Austrian Open play-offs on Sunday by Swede Mikael Lundberg.

Lundberg managed to hold off the 2012 European Tour champion with a 40-foot birdie putt on the par-three 18th hole. The win was the 49-year-old Swede's first European Tour victory in nearly six years.

Sixty-nine-year-old Wiesberger settled for second place, meaning he will no have to watch other results at the FedEx St.Jude Classic in Memphis to see if he will have a place in the US Open Championship later this month.

"Today just started off really well on the first couple of holes," Lundberg said after the play-off.

"I made some really nice putts and changed the whole attitude. And then, what can I say, I didn't hit a great shot on the last (first play-off hole) and Bernd hit a fantastic shot but that's golf and I made a fantastic putt.

"Luckily I had almost the same putt on the 72nd hole so I got the line a little bit but to hole that one was just fantastic."
