A 55-year-old Russian woman was killed instantly after she froze on a zebra crossing as a massive truck thundered towards her. The accident happened in Tver Oblast, a federal subject of Russia, on the M10 federal highway connecting the country's two largest cities, Moscow and Saint Petersburg close to the border with Finland. Three women had all been crossing over on a zebra crossing as the truck approached, and although cars slowed down as the women crossed over the road, the truck driver applied his brakes too late and was unable to stop. Yet while one of the women stepped backwards, and the other ran forwards, the third woman Hedwig Blinova, 41, froze in the middle of the zebra crossing unable to believe what was happening as the truck thundered towards her. The driver tried to swerve to the left and the right but doesn't have any way out as there are women both left and right as well, and in the end he carries on driving straight and runs over the stationary woman frozen in the middle of the zebra crossing. The truck then dragged her across the road for about 10 metres before she came out the back of the vehicle and police say she was killed instantly after suffering from a broken neck. Police who breath tested the 38-year-old driver Samson Balashov said he had been sober after the accident at 11 o'clock in the morning, and a test is now being carried out on the brakes to check if the vehicle met all the technical standards.
