Russian police have released this video which shows how a pair of confident tricksters scammed a supermarket cashier in the western Russian city of Orenburg into handing over large amounts of cash. A CCTV camera caught them at work when Irina Stepanova, 25, fell prey to the tricksters who handed over a 5,000 rouble banknote - about 80 GBP - to pay for a few trifling items. At the last moment and with an almost imperceptible move of her fingers, the conwomen takes the note back as the cashier tries to find the small change. No longer seeing the note, Stepanova, who was already counting out the change assumed the large note was in the till when in fact it had disappeared into the hands of one of the crooks. They then then walked away with 4,990 roubles in change. The police believe the group operates so smoothly that they have tricked more than a dozen merchants, and warn it was a common stunt. Police spokesman Mark Konovalov said: "There is a chance someone will recognise the women in the video but the main thing is to warn people about scams like this."
