Media Leaks Motorway Location Where Autobahn Being Filmed

Makers of the new Hollywood thriller Autobahn starring Ben Kingsley and Anthony Hopkins have been forced to hire extra security staff after German media leaked the location where the stars will be filming later this month.

Filmmakers have rented out an entire five kilometre stretch of motorway between the western German towns of Elsdorf and Merzenich and had hoped to keep it secret because the newly built motorway has not yet officially been opened to the public.

A film insider admitted: "It was perfect because it was clearly impractical to close off an entire motorway to rush through some filming, but this recently completed motorway is completely free."

But although filming was due to play place from now until 17 May on a five kilometre stretch of the German A4n (where the 'n' stands for new), the film producers have now had to draft in extra security personnel to keep away fans and curious locals after the location was leaked in local media.

German media said that Hopkins, 76, and Kingsley, 70, will be on location on 15 May when security will be at its tightest.

Local Dennis Adler, 54, said: "A month ago it was a great place to walk my dog, there was no one around, now there are security guards by every bridge and along the soundproof wall and you can't get anywhere near it."

The road is also full of traffic – set engineers and camera vans - giving locals taste of what will come when the motorway finally opens.

Hopkins and Kingsley are to star together as criminals in the upcoming new thriller.

The pair will be joined in Autobahn by British actors Nicholas Hoult and Felicity Jones, who play the two lead characters. Hoult was recently spotted with girlfriend Jennifer Lawrence who came to visit him during filming in the German city of Cologne.

The thriller will follow a young American couple, Casey and Juliette, who are plunged into a cat and mouse chase across Germany after they find themselves caught between Hopkins and Kingsley’s criminal characters.

Despite both being in their seventies, Hopkins and Kingsley continue to accept film roles at a steady rate. According to German newspaper Express they are getting paid 500,000 EUR (410,000 GBP) a day for their roles.
