Flying Car Takes Off After Navi Error

This is what happens when a motorist gets distracted by his navi system.

Two cars are wrecked - but luckily no-one seriously hurt - after a bizarre accident in China.

One Buick had stopped in a one-way street in Wuchang City in Hubei Province in central China, as the two occupants discussed where they were going to park to go shopping that day.

Suddenly their car was hit from the front with such force that the bonnet flipped over and crushed in on them. The car that hit them then continued on its way - through the air, upside down and coming to halt against a wall twenty feet away.

Police say the driver of the airborne vehicle took his eyes from the road for a moment too long to check his position on his navigation system. "That is all it takes, a moment of distraction, and then you end up with this," said a police spokesman.

Saturday's midday crash resulted in bruises and injuries for the occupants of the stationary car as well as for the driver of the one that hit them.

He managed to stagger out of the wreck of his vehicle through a window and tried to rescue the duo trapped inside the Buick he struck.

He told police: "I don't know what happened. I was looking at my navigation system when I suddenly struck this car. I am really sorry."

Damage to both vehicles is in excess of 60,000 GBP. A police probe is underway and the driver whose car took off will almost certainly face a ban.
