Roller Skater Phantom Hunted By Police

Roller Skater Phantom Hunted By Police

The hunt is on in China for a daredevil roller skater who performs breathtaking stunts on busy roads in the capital Beijing.

Motorists are spellbound by the antics of the phantom skater who police say is an accident waiting to happen.

They claim drivers are being distracted from the road by staring at him and fear a fatality if he is not stopped soon.

The phantom skater is always masked to protect his identity and turns up at traffic hotspots to dazzle frustrated drivers with a series of acrobatic twists, turns and leaps.

One motorist, De Li, 52, said: "He is a real blast. You're sitting at an intersection going nowhere fast when suddenly this dude pitches up and starts doing the most amazing things on a pair of skates.

"I have seen him twice now, and once he nearly got run over when a motorist fed up with waiting in line pulled out suddenly and nearly sent him to skating heaven. I understand why the cops are anxious to stop him because it is addictive to watch him."

A police spokesman said: "We will find this individual sooner or later. There are plenty of parks and pavilions where it is safer to roller skate.

"Busy highways and traffic junctions are not designed for this purpose. It is not a question of being killjoys but of simple road safety. We do not want to see anyone killed or injured because of this person and that is what will happen sooner rather than later."
