Rain Fails To Spoil Brides Big Day

Rain Fails To Spoil Brides Big Day

Love is...feeling the floodwaters of passion lapping over you.

But for these wedding guests at a reception in China it was the brackish water of the local river that gatecrashed proceedings and gave everyone wet feet.

The guests tried to pretend that it was perfectly normal to wade about in a foot of brackish water when they attended the reception in the city of Zhongshan in southeast China following two days of torrential downpours.

While the happy couple were celebrating at a local restaurant, the river had burst its banks and the floodwater had cascaded through the streets and into the premises where they were hosting their party.

Waiter Lee Huan, 37, said: "We soon realised that this was going to be more than a case of the carpet getting damp. It started out being a bit squishy underfoot but soon the water was over the tops of my shoes.

"Me and the rest of the staff disposed of our footwear and began serving the guests in bare feet. Everybody took it in good spirits and decided to party on. It was certainly damp - but it didn't in any way dampen the spirits of guests.

"At the end of the day its very hard to get a booking, if they had cancelled it would have been a year before they could come back again!"

The groom, Meng Wai-Lo, 29, said: "People had come from many places to celebrate with us. We cannot do anything about the weather and I did not want the rain to spoil my bride's big day. This city is notorious for its flash floods. So everyone just rolled up their trousers, or their dresses, and decided to enjoy themselves as best they could. At least it was a wedding reception that will stay in their minds forever."
