A quack doctor has been arrested after he admitted burying his patient when he blundered and killed him with a lethal injection.
Liu Yeqing, 53, a truck driver, went to the private orthopaedic clinic in Hefei city in central China’s Anhui province to see the doctor because of arthritis pains in his shoulder.
The clinic, which opened last year, was run by Dr Li Wu, 41, who claimed he could cure bone diseases with minor operations.
But Liu was a patient who checked in, and never checked out again. It turned out that the doctor blundered and gave him a massive and fatal injection of a wrong drug which caused his heart to stop, bringing instant death.
The man was missing for a month and the killer doctor put on an act of trying to help his grieving family try to find him.
"He played the part of the concerned physician to deflect suspicion away from himself," said police. "He just said that the man had come in for a painkilling injection and then left his premises."
The breakthrough came when the man's body was found in a shallow grave in a remote area by a man out looking for herbs, and police widened their search after receiving a tip off that the doctor was operating under a bogus medical licence.
The doctor immediately came under suspicion and he was brought in for questioning. CCTV cameras in the street where his clinic is situated together with other cameras on the road leading to the shallow grave helped to pin the crime on him.
Li said on the day of his death he gave Liu an injection. He said: "After the injection, foam came out of his mouth. I was very scared and so locked Liu in the room. When I came back later I saw he had died. The next day, I took his body into the countryside and tried to burn it, when that didn't work I buried it."
"We even don’t know whether my brother was still alive when he was burned," Liu’s grief stricken younger brother Liu Yezhu, 47, said.
The doctor is now under arrest and faces the death penalty.
