Pensioner dies after avoiding zebra crossing

An 84-year-old woman who crossed a Vorarlberg street five metres before a pedestrian crossing was hit and severely injured by a car yesterday (Tues) evening.

Police in Hiitsau in Vorarlberg’s Bregenzerwald region said today a car driven by a 20-year-old man had failed to brake in time and hit the woman, leaving her lying in the street.

Rescuers took her to Bregenz provincial hospital, where she died of her injuries.

Police are looking for witnesses to the accident.
