Romania launches Bukovina pilgrimage project in Vienna
The "Pilgrimage to Bukovina" programme was launched at Vienna’s Holiday Fair 2010 last week, Romania's Tourism Ministry said today (Thurs).
The project was launched as part of a joint Austrian-Romanian Vienna-Bukovina pilgrimage route project that will take Austrian tourists in pilgrimage to colourful 14th-century monasteries in the Bukovina region in northern Romania.
The monasteries are on UNESCO's list of world heritage monuments and are unique in the world for their architecture and the paintings on their facades.
Craftsmen and traditional folk singers are also among the region’s tourist attractions.
Romania’s office for tourism promotion and information in Austria organised an event called Bukovina Evening that was attended by tour operators in the Austrian market and Austrian media representatives.
Online newspaper Romanian Times reports participants were interested in what Romanian tourism has to offer, particularly in Bukovina, Transylvania, the Danube Delta, the Carpathians, Bucharest and the Banat, and niche sectors such as car caravans and adventure travel.
