Relief as Austria finally served original UK Heinz Baked Beans

Food giant Heinz has said it will adopt the superior British recipe for baked beans in Austria.

The company’s German branch – which also handles the Austrian market – announced today (Fri) it was convinced the improved version of its trademark product will be a winner.

Heinz Germany said it decided to change the tinned snack’s recipe and give it a thicker sauce and more beans.

"We are delighted to now be able to offer the 100 per cent original recipe from the United Kingdom. We have even changed the label to make it look more like the English label," the international company said.

The firm failed to reveal what made it change the recipe of the classic meal’s continental edition, but the Austrian Times can reveal that anger among British expats over its quality might have sparked the move.

The Austrian Times news desk has been flooded by complaints by Britons living in Austria claiming that the firm’s Austrian baked beans version failed to match the high standards of the version sold in their homeland.

UK food import stores in Vienna said original Heinz Baked Beans have been one of their bestsellers, while many Brits living in the Austrian countryside have ordered the breakfast favourite online or have had relatives send it across the Canal.
