A trucker in Russia sacrificed his lorry to save the life of an elderly woman who was seconds from death beneath the wheels of his rig. His dashboard mounted camera captured the full intensity of the drama and shows how close the woman was to dying. Konstantin Golybov, 40, yanked the steering wheel hard at the last moment to crash his lorry off the side of the road. He was driving near the city of Barnaul in central Russia when Natalya Mashlokova, 68, appeared in front of him. "There was nothing I could do," he said. "I could have slammed on the deadman, the braking system that would have locked the airbrakes on every wheel, but I knew with the speed I was going that I would not have enough time. "I almost collided with a bus as I just yanked the wheel hard off the road. I knew that the truck would be smashed up but I couldn't live with an innocent person's death on my conscience. "I got out of the wreckage stunned but alive. Now I have to explain what happened to my boss." OAP Mashlovka said: "I didn't know when I got up this morning that it might be my last. I didn't notice the truck until it was too late and I closed my eyes and said "Oh God." I felt certain I was going to die. It missed me by inches. I think the driver is a hero and I will bake a cake for him."
